When Grandma was in high school her sister, Nadine, called her to come home from work at Arctic Circle to take her brother, Scott, to the hospital after he had been injured. When she got home, no one was there because her dad got there first and took him. On another occasion, a neighbor came to their house bleeding and needing medical help. Grandma took him to the hospital, but when they arrived the nurse had to tell Grandma to put her head down because she almost fainted from her neighbor's loss of blood.

When her dad came home from working on the range, he would munch on the chocolate chip cookies. The store was owned  by Dan Frost, who was Great Grandpa Fred E Heaton's friend.

Grandma Slade's Childhood Home Address:  160 N 200 W, Kanab, UT 84741 Grandma broke her front teeth when she fainted in the driveway.   She made her dad homemade bread when her mom was in the hospital in Salt Lake.

Kanab Library

Kanab Library Address:  13 N 100 E, Kanab, UT 84741 The schools did not have a library. This was the only library in town. Grandma would stop here after school and get books including Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Little Women and others.
